2024 Scripture Reading Plan for Lent

Updated: Jul 4

Journey with Jesus Through the Gospel of John:

A Lenten Reflection

Lent is a time of preparation for Christians as we draw near to Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. It is a common practice during the 40 days of Lent to be intentional in our spiritual practices. During this season of Lent, we invite you to prepare for Jesus’ death and resurrection by reading through the Gospel of John. Sunday are days of rest and worship so there are no passages suggested.

A helpful method for going beyond simply reading the daily passage is a study method titled “S.O.A.P.” S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer.

Scripture

Read the passage. Notice any phrase or verse that stands out. It is helpful to write down word or verse in a notebook or journal.

Observation

Questions are a useful way to discover the meaning of a passage. What does this passage tell us about God? Our world? Or ourselves? Why did passage that stood out to you stand out? Is there something God wants to show you?

Application

How can your life be different because of what you read?

·       Was there a lesson to learn?

·       And example to follow?

·       A promise to claim?

·       A sin to confess?

·       A deed to start, continue, or stop?

Ask “God, how would You like me to apply this verse into my life?”

Prayer

Write out a prayer based on what you read that day.
